My athletic background began when I was five years old on the pitcher’s mound in Houston, Texas. From there I continued to pursue athletics all throughout my school-age years and ultimately became an officer of my high school's dance team. After graduating from SHSU in 2006 I became a 5th-grade math and science teacher. In 2012 I walked into my first CrossFit box and was immediately hooked. With my athletic background, the core fundamentals of CrossFit reminded me of what it was like to be a part of a team. Continuously aspiring to maintain a strong body and mind, CrossFit has empowered me to share that same passion with others, and was certified in early 2015.
Once all my schooling was complete in 2006, it was solely up to me to stay healthy and in shape. At that point in my life, to me, that meant one thing: being skinny. The constant yo-yo dieting, treadmills, and negative self-talk were leading me down paths of self-destruction. In 2012 a CrossFit gym opened up literally in the vacant lot behind my house. I walked in and gave it a shot. For the first time in my life, fitness was about being healthy, not being skinny. Having a body, muscle, strength...all of that was appreciated. Over time, I learned to eat with purpose, how to have a healthy relationship with food, that fitness and exercise are FUN but most importantly to love myself and my body for what it can do.
One of the best things about being a coach is working with people to recognize their full potential. Patiently working with people, seeing their progress over time and how they constantly surprise themselves with their own strength and tenacity are my purpose and motivation for being a coach.
