Story of DLG:
The last quarter of 2017 I was diagnosed with a hormonal disorder called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS causes ovarian cysts, it affects the way an individual maintains weight, and interferes with having consistent menstrual cycles; which can lead to difficulty conceiving. I was relieved to have found an answer to my health issues, but I knew I had to do something more. I constantly thought about a future I might not be able to provide, I wasn’t feeling my best, looking in the mirror was a daily struggle, and the number on the scale kept growing. More of my clothes stopped fitting. I never felt grounded; I didn’t have a place or hobby to call my own. I had a tough time maintaining an optimistic outlook. I realized my current life style was doing more harm than good. Shortly after that, I had a sparked interest in CrossFit thanks to discovering a YouTube channel.
I talked over some of my thoughts with my significant other about joining CrossFit. He encouraged me to go for it. It was my sign, so I took my chance! I started researching around google to look at websites and read reviews from local boxes nearby; if there were any issues athletes had, how people spoke about the coaches, or any experiences a visitor had dropping in. After reading raving reviews, I decided to email CrossFit Strength Haven to get some more information where I heard back from Coach Keelee, who helped me coordinate my free session. I signed up at the box later that week to start my elements classes with Coach Tim. I learned the basics of each movement and did small challenging workouts, graduating into regular classes.
Fast forward 5 months later, I’m more confident in myself and in my life. I feel the changes, my significant other sees the progress, my family hears about my success. It has been a long, hard, steady process, yet highly rewarding. I dedicate the time and effort, make consistent choices to be healthier, and truly committed to myself. My physical and mental health have never been better. I’m running longer distances, jump roping at higher numbers, making new personal records, and feeling positive to say the least. I’m wearing clothes that are fitting better or that I haven’t been able to fit into in over a year. I have good training days and bad sessions, and face mentally challenging workouts. I am stronger, faster, and more sound in myself which carries into my home-life, family, work, and everything I do. I have never regretted a single workout. I’m thankful I found my home here at CrossFit Strength Haven. It truly is never too early or too late to start your journey.
